My name is Ms. Hernandez and I teach third grade at Washington Elementary. I have also taught kindergarten, first grade and second grade. I have been a teacher at Washington for 13 years now. I have now taught for a total of 18 yrs. So far my favorite grade to teach is third grade.
I have a master’s degree in education and feel very lucky that I get to do what I love as a job. I grew up here in San Diego and earned my BA degree from San Diego State University. I am also proud to say that I work and live in this community.
I live in a high rise building in the Marina District. I enjoy jogging, going for walks by the bay or just sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee from any of the popular coffee shops near my home.
As an educator, I believe in nurturing the curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills of all students. I know that children learn best when they are provided with an environment that allows them to feel safe to express themselves and explore new learnings. I also feel that the social and emotional development of students is just as important as learning any new skill. All children are unique in the way that they learn. It is up to the teacher to adapt to the learning style of the students and not the other way around.
